Kia Car India has delivered a strong sales performance in August 2026, recording its highest-ever wholesale sales for the month of August since entering the Indian market. The automaker dispatched 29,042 vehicles during the month, registering a 48.1% year-on-year increase over the 19,608 units dispatched in August 2025.

The latest numbers underline the growing demand for Kia's SUV and utility vehicle portfolio in India. The company's established models, particularly the Seltos and Sonet, continued to be important volume contributors, while newer products and electric vehicles added further momentum.

Kia August 2026 Sales Report

Kia's August performance represents an increase of 9,434 units compared with the same month last year. The company also improved over July 2026, when it dispatched 28,200 units, resulting in approximately 3% month-on-month growth.

Sales Period Units Growth
August 2026 29,042 +48.1% YoY
August 2025 19,608
July 2026 28,200 +3% MoM
January-August 2026 2,20,991 +20.1% YoY
January-August 2025 1,83,882

Kia's cumulative wholesale sales for January-August 2026 reached 2,20,991 units, compared with 1,83,882 units during the corresponding period last year. This represents growth of approximately 20.1% year-on-year.

Seltos Continues to Lead Kia's Growth

The Seltos remains one of the biggest contributors to Kia's Indian sales. The latest-generation Seltos has maintained an average of more than 10,000 units per month since its launch in January 2026, indicating strong customer acceptance in the highly competitive SUV segment.

The Sonet has also continued to generate steady demand in the sub-compact SUV category. Together, the Seltos and Sonet have provided Kia with a strong volume base while the company expands its product range.

SUVs continue to be one of the fastest-growing areas of India's passenger vehicle market, making the performance of Kia's SUV portfolio particularly important for the company's overall sales strategy.

New Models Add More Momentum

Kia's newer products are also contributing to its expanding sales base. The company has been increasing its focus on electric mobility with products such as the Syros EV and Carens Clavis EV, while continuing to offer premium electric vehicles such as the EV6 and EV9.

The expansion of its EV portfolio gives Kia an opportunity to participate in India's rapidly developing electric vehicle market alongside its established petrol and diesel models.

The company has also introduced measures aimed at addressing some of the concerns associated with EV ownership, including battery-related reassurance and ownership-cost considerations.

Kia's Upcoming Premium SUV Push

Kia is also preparing to strengthen its presence in the premium SUV segment with the upcoming Sorento.

The Sorento is scheduled for launch in India on September 4, 2026, and is expected to become Kia's first hybrid SUV in the Indian market. It is also expected to be offered with a diesel powertrain. The model will target customers looking for a premium three-row SUV.

The upcoming launch could give Kia an additional product in a segment where demand for premium SUVs and electrified powertrains is increasing.

Festive Season Could Support Further Growth

Kia's record August performance comes ahead of India's important festive selling period, when vehicle demand traditionally receives additional support. A strong product portfolio, growing SUV demand and increasing interest in electric vehicles could help the company maintain its sales momentum.

However, competition in India's SUV market is becoming increasingly intense. Manufacturers are introducing new models, updated SUVs and electric vehicles across several price segments. Kia's ability to maintain competitive pricing, offer new technologies and keep its product range fresh will therefore remain important.

With 29,042 units dispatched in August and cumulative 2026 sales already above 2.20 lakh units, Kia India has made a strong start to the second half of the year. The upcoming Sorento and continued expansion of its EV range could provide additional growth opportunities in the months ahead.
