Honda car has reportedly partnered with Tata Technologies to engineer an all-new vehicle platform that could support multiple hybrid and electrified models for international markets. The collaboration marks a significant change in Honda’s traditional approach, as the automaker has historically handled most of its vehicle platform, chassis and powertrain development internally.
It is worth noting that Tata Technologies operates independently of Tata Motors. Although both companies are part of the Tata Group, Tata Technologies is a global engineering and product development company that works with automotive and other industries worldwide.
According to reports, Tata Technologies will be involved in the end-to-end engineering of Honda’s new vehicle architecture. The platform is expected to support several upcoming models, including hybrid and electrified vehicles aimed at Asian and other global markets.
North America is reportedly not expected to use this architecture. If confirmed, this would represent the first known Honda vehicle platform developed with an Indian engineering partner.
Honda has not disclosed detailed information about the project but has indicated that it continues to explore partnerships with external companies to improve competitiveness and accelerate future development.
The partnership comes as Honda looks to reduce vehicle development expenses and improve engineering efficiency. The automaker has been reassessing its global EV strategy and has already cancelled several electric vehicle programmes planned for North America and Japan.
Honda has also introduced its “Triple Half” strategy, which aims to reduce vehicle development costs, engineering workload and development time by around 50% compared with 2025 levels.
